A selection of the poetry of Ranajit Das, written over a span of four decades, A Summer Nightmare and Other Poems is remarkable for its extraordinary blend of intellect, imagination and deep sympathy. His poetry is intensely sexual and based on scientific truths, striving, above all, to search for realities that lie concealed behind illusion. About the Author Ranajit Das was born in 1949 in Assam. He joined the West Bengal Civil Service and after his retirement in 2007, he briefly worked in Guwahati as the chief editorial advisor of the Bengali daily, Jugashankha and in Delhi, as the editor of the Federation of Indian Publishers' journal and newsletter. He has seven volumes of poetry, two novels and two essay collections to his credit. He was awarded the Birendra Chattopadhyay Smriti Puraskar in 1994 and the Alpana Acharya Memorial Prize in 2010. In 2004, he delivered the Tagore Memorial Lecture in Kolkata on the occasion of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Sahitya Akademi and was also a participant in the Poetry Triennial of Indian Poetry in 2005. Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee (b.1947) taught English literature in Silchar, and comparative literature at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He was the regional secretary of the Sahitya Akademi's Eastern Regional Office in Kolkata, the editor of the Sahitya Akademi's journal, Indian Literature in Delhi, and the director of the National Book Trust, Delhi. He is currently the director of the K.K. Birla Foundation, Delhi. He has translated works by Mahasweta Devi, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay and U.R. Anantamurthy to critical acclaim. He co-edits CIIL's web-journal, Translation Today, and is a member of the Programme Advisory Committee of the National Translation Mission launched by the Government of India.
