The Qur'an is believed to have been revealed 1400 years back to prophet Muhammad. It is revered by Muslims, and is considered as the word of god. This masterpiece and holy scripture is meant for all irrespective of their age, gender, or class. The Qur'an (Oxford World's Classics) is one of the finest available translations of this holy book in English. This book is written in the contemporary form of English, with minimal use of cryptic language, while retaining the original eloquence of the scripture. The author also explains the manner in which it is segregated into different topics for easy reference. The book also examines the issues pertaining to intolerance, combativeness, and oppression of women which are mentioned in the Qur’an. The author’s notes also explain the historical, geographical, and personal references made indirectly in the Qur’an. The Qur'an (Oxford World's Classics) is a satisfactory translation of the Qur’an. The reissue edition was published by Oxford University Press in 2008, and is available in paperback.
