Lung cancer refers to a tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in the lung tissues. It is also known as lung carcinoma. This growth can spread to nearby tissues or other parts of the body. Lung cancers that arise in the lungs are termed as primary lung cancers. Coughing, weight loss, shortness of breath and chest pain are a few of its symptoms. Tobacco smoking is the prominent cause of lung cancer. Other reasons for lung cancer include a combination of genetic factors, exposure to radon gas, asbestos, passive smoking and other forms of air pollution. It can be diagnosed through a biopsy.
