Since the first edition of Analog and Digital Communication Systems was published by Prentice Hall in 1979, this series of texts has been used at hundreds of universities throughout the world. Its highly readable style and excellent pedagogy has been appreciated by more than 100,000 readers. The author's teaching philosophy, which includes the principal that "there is no such thing as a dumb question," clearly displays itself in his writing.

The Fifth edition represents both an evolution and a revolution. The writing style and pedagogy remain from the earlier editions. The material has been thoroughly updated to include the latest technologies. But there has also been a major change in presentation. While earlier edition separated analog communication from digital, the current edition seamlessly intertwines them.

The new edition also includes significantly enhanced computer applications. Many of the equations and results are reinforced with MATLAB programs, with the code given in the text and also available as M-files on the included CD. Many of the modulators and demodulators have also been simulated using Tina software (from Design Soft), and that software and the example systems are also included on the CD.
