From the by-lanes of Shanghai to the farmer's markets of Santa Monica, Ranjini Rao and Ruchira Ramanujam have been there, done that and picked up a motley of aromas, tastes and inspirations for their culinary experiments over the years. Around The World With The Tadka Girls is a diary of the authors' culinary travels and experiments together, recorded and fine-tuned after several trials and errors. It brings to you fresh, imaginative recipes, inspired by innumerable culinary quests and experiments in different cuisines, all blended with the inimitable Indian Tadka style of the authors' own kitchens. Ranging from breakfast options that borrow flavors from Mexican kitchens and American B&B spreads, to soups and salads that smack of Polish and tropical tastes, the book conveys a world of flavors and unexpected quirky tastes. The Tadka authors' own signature dishes will transport you to train journeys of yore and visits to summer fairs, while their cakes and bakes are inspired by classic French and Mediterranean recipes. Every recipe is accompanied by real-life stories, be they visits to a school potluck or a drive down a wine trail in a Midwestern American town. The authors share these intimate moments, as well as the fruits of their labors, for you to savor and serve to your families, much as they have been doing for years

Ranjini Rao

Ruchira Ramanujam and Ranjini Rao are best friends, whose brainchild, Tadka Pasta, isn't just a food blog they started in 2011, when in the US. It is a repertoire of stories infused with the tastes and traditions they've picked up during their travels. The recipes are from their own kitchens where they learnt to rise above burnt breads and the picky-eating phases of their girls. With two books published in quick succession : Mango Masala: 60 Indian Recipes from Your Local Supermarket (eBooks2go) and Around the World with the Tadka Girls (Westland-Tranquebar), they began to see food literature in a new light. Upon returning to India a few years ago, they took their love for food, books and children forward through many avenues, right from conducting workshops for children in schools and summer camps - with a focus on the nutritional and cultural aspects of food - to designing healthy and fun recipes for childrens menus for clients. They won the FICCI-Flo Bangalore Women of the Year Award in 2016 for their work in the local food and culture scene. They live in Bangalore, where they often discuss plots and plans over endless cups of filter coffee. They love chillies, chocolate and everything in between, and can twist themselves up into pretzels for a plate of good food.
