Basic Principles and Calculations in Chemical Engineering is a comprehensive resource for all undergraduate and professional chemical and industrial engineers. The book is an introductory text on the principles of chemical engineering, demonstrating how chemical engineering and bioengineering are perceived in real life. The book discusses how to calculate material balances, and teaches the basics of stoichiometry. It explains about gases, vapours and liquids, giving students a coverage of the laws of gases and their equations of state. In addition, the book covers multiphase equilibria, energy, energy balance, psychrometry, and other relevant topics.

About the Authors

David M. Himmelblau was an American academician and the Paul D. and Betty Robertson Meek and American Petrofina Foundation Centennial Professor Emeritus in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas. A graduate of MIT, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Washington and has written widely on process analysis, fault detection, and optimization.

James B. Riggs is an American academician, former Professor Emeritus of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas Tech University. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Riggs completed his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley. He also wrote: An Introduction to Numerical Methods for Chemical Engineers, and Chemical and Bio-Process Control.
