Kamakshi Dasa

Late R. Somasundaram Aiyar (1900-1988), after a brilliant academic career started practicing in the Madras High Court. He was religiously inclined even as a Youngman. Guided by his senior and his father-in-law, he became an ardent devotee of Lord Subramanya. At the age of 26, he had a dream in which Goddess Kamakshi Devi appeared before him and commanded him to write songs in her praise. As soon as he got up, he painted the figure of Kamakshi Devi as seen by him in his dream, in water paint and started worshipping the same. The painting is still being worshipped by his disciples and remains as fresh as ever. He was given the Title 'Kamakshi Dasa' by the Pontiff Paramacharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth in 1931. He had written many philosophical works in Tamil and English. He has translated Bhagavad Gita in verse form in English and Tamil. His works are very popular among the devout in Tamilnadu and all over India.
