‘Memoirs of a rural surgeon’ is an account of the various activities taken by veteran rural surgeon Dr. J.K. Banerjee. The book is in two parts. The first part is biographical sketch. The second part is an introspection after retirement, about discovering his own spiritual dimension, which he feels has been the backbone of his success. Dr. Banerjee postulates that the harm to humanity and nature that is being done by people across the world, The dehumanisation and corruption in everyday life, is because of the neglect of this spiritual dimension by the modern ‘scientific’ man. He suggests a way out with the Indian youth taking the first step in that direction. These memoirs are not motivating and also powerful instrument to dedicate and devote oneself to the cause of humanity.
