This man, his father, suffers from a condition known as Asperger's Syndrome. John finds his life devoid of any purpose and so he seeks to give it that purpose by enlisting himself in the army. However, shortly after doing that, he falls for Savannah and the feeling is mutual for her as well. Savannah gives John a book on the topic of autism as she feels that this will be helpful for his father. After the 9/11 attacks, John re-enlists in the army even though his desire is to settle down with Savannah. John and Savannah continue to communicate through letters, after he goes to serve in Kuwait and Iraq. However, during his time away, Savannah begins to fall in love with someone else. She informs John of this development in a letter that begins with the words 'Dear John'. However, the story then takes on numerous twists and turns that make it complicated yet interesting. When John returns to North Carolina, he still believes that Savannah is the only one he could ever love. What happened to Savannah after their breakup? Will John be able to get her back? The book was adapted into a movie in the year 2010. About Nicholas Sparks The author of this book, Nicholas Sparks, is also a renowned screenwriter from the United States. Apart from this book, the author has published 16 other books. Some of these include The Guardian (2003), Three Weeks With My Brother (2004), and A Walk To Remember (1999). Sparks was born on the 31st of December 1965, in Omaha, Nebraska. As his father was pursuing his degree, the author spent a great deal of his childhood in several places. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame, majoring in business finance, in the year 1988. Sparks even received a scholarship for full track and field during his time at Notre Dame. He was married on the 22nd of July 1989, and relocated to New Bern, NC. He and his wife Cathy Sparks together have five children.
