Bartimaeus the magnificent, the Rekhyt of Alexandria, Necho of Jerusalem, Sakhr Al-Jinni, N'Gorso the Mighty, Wakonda of the Algonquin, Serpent of Silver Plumes returns in this action packed fantasy novel from Jonathan Stroud, the second book in the Bartimaeus trilogy. Summary of the Book He has served Gilgamesh, Solomon, Ptolemy, Tycho Brahe, Faust and Zarbustibal, wise and powerful magicians of history and certain infamy. And he has also served a rather cheeky young boy called Nathaniel who was foolish enough to give him his real name. But Bartimaeus is not yet whipped, he has his pride as a level four Djinni after all, and he is very good at what he does. However, little did he expect the young whippersnapper to summon him back to business barely two years after the embarrassing embargo with the Amulet of Samarkand. Now Nathaniel is called John Mandrake, and he works with the Minister of Security, Jessica Whitwell. Barely fourteen, he has begun to make his mark as a wise young magician, but he needs to work quick before his efforts go to waste due to the machinations of a rather annoying group of vigilantes called the Resistance. He knows only a little about the group, little more than the fact that three of their number are called Kitty, Fred, and Stanley from his rather embarrassing encounter two years ago. While he investigates into their clandestine activities, Nathaniel discovers that a series of break-ins across London are eeriely linked to a mysterious new enemy, one which has been killing all who are sent to investigate. He needs to find a competent demon for surveillance, and in a fit of desperation, he summons the one demon he swore to never summon again on the risk of having his name revealed to all. Needless to say, that particular demon isn't particularly pleased about. He's rather miffed, and has a whole lot of ideas for revenge in place while you read this as well.
