Oscar Wilde (1854-1900), Irish poet and dramatist is popular for such works of literary art that potray aesthetic beauty, verbal craftsmanship and unbeatable wit. The most popular of his stories for children is 'The Happy Prince and Other Tales' - fairy-stories written for his two sons include the stories - The Selfish Giant', 'The Nightingale and the Rose', 'The Remarkable Rocket' and 'The Devoted Friend.' This book also contains the plays written by Wilde. They include - 'A Woman of No Importance' (1893) which shows how an illegitimate son is torn between his father and mother. Another play 'An Ideal Husband' (1895) deals with blackmail, political corruption and public and private honor.' The Importance of Being Earnest (1895) was about two fashionable young gentlemen and their eventually successful courtship. Apart from novels and short stories, he has written a row of essays and poems. 'Lord Arthur Savile's Crime and Other Stories' is another series of stories written by Oscar Wilde.
