This book is designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in Indian universities and also aspirants of competitive exams seeking an in-depth understanding of the principles of organic chemistry and mastering the art of organic synthesis. The apparent difficulty in grasping synthetic organic chemistry can be traced back to predicting the reactivity of organic molecules. The authors have taken utmost care to discuss this predictability issue in organic synthesis using a more holistic approach with the help of mechanistic details of the bond-breaking and bond-forming reactions. Many examples have been provided for each concept and synthetic transformation for clearing up doubts and installing confidence in readers.

Key features:

   •   Mechanistic insights of major carbon-carbon bond forming and bond cleaving processes

   •   Focuses on understanding the reactivity patterns of organic molecules and predicting reaction outcomes based on the core principles

   •   Enables the reader to choose the suitable reagent and conditions to form the desired product selectively

  •    Includes a large number of examples and solved problems for a better understanding of the concepts

SANJAY KUMAR

Dr. Girdhar Joshi

Dr. Girdhar Joshi is presently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University (Govt PG College), Gopeshwar, Chamoli, Uttarakhand, India. His foundation in organic chemistry was fostered under the mentorship of Prof. Sanjay Kumar, during his BSc and MSc. He received his Ph.D. degree (Chemistry) in 2012 from the CSIR-Central Salt and Marine Chemical Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI) Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India. He then joined Department of Chemistry, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun as a faculty and worked their till 2016. He has taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses on organic chemistry, stereochemistry and spectroscopy over the past several years. He has more than 30 international journal publications and two granted patents to his credit with more than 900 citations and an h-index of 16. He also co-authored 10 chemistry books as per undergraduate courses of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna (A Central) University and Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University curriculum. He is also involved in developing the study material of chemistry for undergraduate and postgraduate courses of Uttarakhand Open University and contributed 12 book chapters of organic chemistry.

Dr. Saikat Dutta

Dr. Saikat Dutta is presently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, Karnataka, India. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2010 from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California Davis (UCD), California, USA, till 2014. He has taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses on organic synthesis and spectroscopy over the past several years. He has more than 50 international journal publications and five granted patents to his credit with more than 1000 citations and an h-index of 18. He also has published 03 book chapters in edited books. He believes that the best research ideas can be obtained while teaching, and teaching is not complete without discussing the recent research findings. .
