The Onward English eight-stage course for schools has a skills focus. The Onward English Readers are designed to enable pupils to read efficiently and with understanding. They present a rich choice of texts and reading tasks to strengthen the pupil’s ability to grasp information and store it for easy ‘retrieval’. They offer highly motivated practice in the use of the language as well in acquiring a feel for literature. There is a new emphasis on communicative tasks, discussions and activities, and vocabulary enhancement across the course. Pupils are also guided in various ways to write correctly, expressively and in an organized manner. Used along with the Onward English Skill books, the Readers develop communicative skills not only for the language classroom but also for the use of English in the other subjects of the school curriculum and, more importantly, in life situations
