Chronology of Science is a fascinating collection of notable scientific and technological achievements that shaped scientific history. Organized by time period, the volume contains more than 2,000 cross-referenced entries, ranging from 50 to 150 words each, in addition to identifiers that categorize the entries into the core areas of biology, chemistry, Earth science, marine science, mathematics, physics, space and astronomy, and weather and climate. To supplement the entries, each section includes introductory and closing essays, a time line chart of scientific discoveries, sidebars expanding upon important concepts, and charts and illustrations.

The entries in the volume fall into the following sections:

  • Setting the Foundation: Science in Antiquity through the First Century BCE.

  • Expanding Knowledge: First Century C.E.—13th Century CE.

  • Science in the Renaissance: 1300—1632

  • Building the Base of Modern Science1636—1759
