Nicholas Sparks - The Rescue begins with the audience being introduced to the young Taylor McAden, who is a volunteer firefighter in a small southern town. He is extremely brave, and has often risked his own life to save the lives of others. Rushing into burning buildings, Taylor has cheated death to save those whose lives have been threatened by fire. However, one of the interesting aspects of Taylor's life is that he has never been able to fall in love with a woman.
This changes drastically with the appearance of a young single mother named Denise Holden. Denise and her young son make their way to the town in which Taylor is residing. Denise's son is disabled, and this young mother must do everything she can to make ends meet for both of them.
Denise and Taylor come face to face when an almost fatal car accident takes place, and they soon realize that they have feelings for each other. As Taylor looks forward to the many changes that will come about in his new life with Denise, and her son, Kyle, he must also come to terms with several issues from his past.
