Naveen Jain has trained in Neonatology from the premier medical school PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. He established the department of Neonatology at Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Trivandrum, Kerala in the year 2003 and is a visiting consultant at the national center of excellence Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum. The neonatology department at KIMS has grown into a center of excellence for training in neonatology; many of his students have achieved national awards at examinations, quizzes, and conferences. He has been the guide of over 50 research projects in Neonatology. He has been an examiner for many national exit examinations in Neonatology (DM at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER)), National Board of Examinations (NBE), Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), and National Neonatology Forum of India (NNF). He has pioneered the neonatal nursing fellowship of NNF. He has been an editorial board member for the Clinical Practice Guidelines of the NNF, published in the year 2010. Naveen has the opportunity of editing the prestigious book Illingworth – The development of the Infant and the Young Child. He is a reviewer for more than 100 publications, has more than 400 guest lectures at international, national, and state conferences. He also has many publications and chapters to his credit. His areas of interest are neurodevelopment follow up of highrisk neonates and has been an editor of the book – The High Risk Newborn and evolved a follow up module the “blue book” that has been adopted by more than 100 neonatal units in India. He has been a national faculty for Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, ventilation workshops and novel areas like office practice in neonatology and rapid assessment and management of sick neonates in resource-limited health care facilities. He is an assessor for accreditation of neonatal units for NNF and IAP and has been a national office bearer of the National Neonatology Forum of India. His love for teaching and making concepts easy has been the driving force of adaptation of this prestigious neonatal manual for Asian students and pediatricians; he received help from the most well-known teachers from India in the process.
