Design of steel structures by limit state method is one of the core disciplines of the undergraduate civil engineering syllabus pertaining to various universities affiliated to AICTE New Delhi. There are various methods of design of steel structures. They are working stress method, ultimate load analysis (or plastic analysis) and limit state method. The working stress method is the older method. Due to specific disadvantages of the first two methods as explained in the text book, an attempt has been made in this textbook to introduce the designs of various steel structures by limit state method. An attempt is made to design the steel structures by plastic theory in chapter 4. This book is prepared in such a way that it should be students friendly and covers almost all types of possible design problems being covered in almost all Indian universities. The book consists of 12 chapters covering 66 theory questions, nearly 140 solved problems and more than 100 exercise problems. Each chapter is explained with the theory required to solve the corresponding problems in a simple way so that the reader can easily follow the design method. Overall this text book is a good attempt in bringing relevant design procedures for different steel structures. There is no doubt that this book will be helpful to all the student community of all Indian universities preparing for examinations in the above subject.
