Marriages across religious boundaries have usually been studied from the perspective of social problems. The orientation of the researches done is towards discerning difficulties and failures, as a result of which they have ignored the positive aspect and success of marriages. This study examines the role of religion in the changing structural features of marriage and family in the modern times, also how does it affect the status and role of women in family and marriage. This is an empirical study conducted in Jammu city on the inter-religiously married couples from gender perspective. The study reveals that the women could create space for themselves through inter-religious marriages only when they took the final decision regarding their lives. In order to assert their independence and autonomous decision, they even cross Socio-religious boundaries also. It indicates that self took prevalence over the others. Thus, the drift points towards the empowerment of women.
