"Tourism is becoming increasingly important for the world economy. The spectacular growth of tourism provides both challenges and opportunities. The tourism industry has a key role to play in confronting the challenge of climate change. Climate change is now seen as a fundamental issue with major implications for tourism. Tourism is the most climate - dependent economic sector. For the global tourism industry climate change brings in more risks than opportunities. The industry has responded to this challenge and stepped up its efforts with regard to climate change. Among the climate change impacts, rise in sea level is the most threatening. That results in negative consequences for tourism. Tourism activity is expected to grow in the next 20-30 years due to globalization, demographic changes and lifestyle. Tourism can become a victim of its own success if it does not develop in a sustainable way. Climate mitigation and adaptation measures are not only vital for our future, but also make economic sense today specially in tourism. This book aims to understand the global challenge of climate change in tourism sector and how the industry is responding to this challenge."--Pub. desc.
