Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the major type of primary liver cancer in adults. It originates on the site of chronic liver inflammation. It is most closely associated with hepatitis B or C, and exposure to toxins like alcohol, aflatoxin, etc. The treatment for HCC depends on factors like history of tumors in the family, the size and spread of the tumor, and the overall health of the patient. A liver transplant may be necessary if the cancer has advanced to a higher stage.
