As a broadcast journalist, Ashraf Wani is a household name in the Kashmir Valley. With over 25 years of rewarding experience in the field of journalism, reporting, and broadcasting, Ashraf Wani has reported the various facets of the Kashmir conflict, culture, socio-political landscape from every nook and cranny of the region. Besides this, Wani as a widely traveled journalist, Wani has reported from the war-torn Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. He began his career in the mid-1990s as a News Reader at the All India Radio (AIR) and joined TV Today Network Limited three years later, in 1998. Presently, he works as Bureau Chief, Jammu and Kashmir, for India Today Group. Wani studied engineering and graduated from the University of Kashmir in 1993. He also has a postgraduate diploma in Conflict Reporting from Thomson Foundation (United Kingdom), at Cardiff University, United Kingdom. As an expert in conflict reporting, Wani knows the craft, and with an analytical sweep analyses , narrates the volatile situation with a calming demeanor. He has Interviewed the who’s who of Kashmir’s political landscape and also prominent militant Commanders, including the LeT founder, Hafiz Syed, and and Hizbul Mujahideen supreme, Syed Salahudin in Pakistan-administered Kashmir in 2001. He has a distinction of being one of the first television reporters to break news about the Kargil war War in the late 1990s. The veteran journalist has covered the annual holy pilgrimages like the Haj and Amarnath first time for television and has also reported from the dangerous Tora Bora mountains of Afghanistan. Wani is one of the few Indian TV journalists who reported from Ground Zero, Taliban takeover in Afghanistan in 2021 and Israel Hamas War in 2023.
