Blue Whale :The blue whale is the largest living animal. It can reach 100 ft in length and nearly 150 tonnes in weight (as much as 30 elephants). It has no teeth. In its mouth are plates of horny material called baleen or whalebone. These strain the little planktonic animals from the water which are then swallowed. During the summer, it lives in the polar seas, but moves to warmer seas in winter. Its calves are born in these warmer regions and are 24 feet long at birth. The size of the blue whale and many uses of its body parts have made it attractive for hunting. There are very few of them.


Rhinoceros :The rhinoceros is found in eastern and southern Africa and in tropical Asia. Three out of the five species are found in Asia. The rhinoceros is about 183 cm high at the shoulders and weighs up to 4 tonnes. The thick skin has got deep folds. It is a herbivorous animal and gives birth to a single calf. It is hunted for its horn which is very valuable and put to various uses. Due to this all its species are endangered.


Panda: The panda leads a quiet life in the bamboo forests of West China. It has a bear-like appearance.


A fully-grown panda is about 152 cm in height with a short tail. It weighs between 90 and 136 kg. It has a white coat-like fur. But the legs, arms, the ears, upper chest and the shoulders are black. Also typical are the "spectacles" around the eyes.  The panda feeds throughout the day on bamboo shoots and stems. Snow Leopard : The snow leopard is found in rocky grasslands between the trees and the snow-lines in Asia, in the Altai Mountains and the Himalayas.It is a medium-sized cat about 106 cm long. The fur is pale ashy brown, marked ony with black rosettes, and is very long-5 cm on the back and up to 10 cm on the under parts-as protection from the cold.It feeds on small rodents and also goats, sheep, musk deer and wild boars. It makes a den in the rocks and here 2 to young ones are born in April.


This animal is hunted for its fur, so there is great threat to its number.
