It gives us pleasure in presenting APC Mentor in English Core for students of Class XI. The book has been prepared stricly in accordance to the latest syllabus issued by CBSE. The main thrust of write-up is on students with ideal guidance and preparing them to pass the examination with flying colours. It is written keeping in mind the requirements of students and caters to all types of questions. Section A contains 25 passages for note-making and summarising. 21 unseen passages and 10 poem to test reading comprehension. Detailed guidelines and useful tips have been given to enable the students to attempt these questions in the examination. The format corresponds to the questions asked in the annual examination. Section B contains writting skills and grammar. Writing skills include (i) Short compositions i.e., advertisements, notice and posters, (ii) Business/official letters, letters to the editor, application for a job, letters to the school and college authorities, and (iii) Long compositions i.e., articles, speeches, report writing and narratives. Grammar deals with determiners, tenses, clauses, models and voice. It also cotains passages for error corrections, editing, transformation and reording of sentences. The grammar portion has been explained in a very lucid and simple manner giving examples for a thorough understanding. Section C contains lessonwise summary of the lessons of the textbook Hornbill and supplementary reader Snapshots. Meanings of difficult words have also been given to understand the lessons thoroughly. The answers have been provided for te questions asked in text. Beside this, a large number of additional short answer and long answer questions with answers have been provided on have also been incorporated. It also contains the complete summary and questions with answers. Section D deals with listening and speaking skills based on factual or discursive pasages. A number of passages are based on pictures giving students enough understanding of speaking skills. The language used and style followed will rise to the expectains of the young scholars. We sincerely feel that the book will be of great use. It is hoped that it will guide the sudents and will be appreciated by them.
