One can hardly deny that 3 Ps: Pollution, Poverty and Population play a pivotal role in environmental degradation. Most of the third world countries, including India, are under constant threat of pollution load beyond the carrying capacity of their environment, population explosion and steadily increasing poverty. All these factors have a direct bearing on the society, which is reflected in terms of huge quantity of waste generation, increased incidences of vector born diseases, pollution of air and water and presence of xenobiotics in fruits and vegetables. Their ill consequences are discernible in deteriorating human health and also have a number of other social implications. Hence, there is an urgent need to take concrete measures for economic upliftment of rural poor, spread awareness regarding health and hygiene and to adopt a growth model that leads to sustainable development.
