The monograph explores the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) as a liminal space where colonial legacies of exclusion intersect with contemporary humanitarian crises.
The study examines how the IOR has transitioned from a historical trade and imperial basin into a contested site of statelessness and surveillance. Utilising the concept of liminality and the case of Rohingya refugees, the paper argues that decolonised nations have internalised imperial logics of bordering, creating a zone where sovereignty is blurred, and human mobility is both enabled and constrained.
