The present study does not simply 'reproduce' the medieval Punjabisociety as 'reflected' in Hir Waris; rather it seeks to unfold thefolk legend of Hir-Ranijha in the wider political, social, culturaland religious contexts of medieval Punjab. The volume suggests thata society, its folklore and history are organically linked to oneanother.
