Malgudi Days (Penguin Classics) originally published in 1943, is a wonderful collection of short stories that are set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi. Each story has powerful characters, that connect with readers even decades after they were first created by the author.
Readers will come across more than thirty tales in this book. The story called Fellow Feeling revolves around a Tamil Brahmin man who is accused of eating fish, while travelling on a train. In An Astrologer's Day, readers will see how an astrologer comes face to face with a man who he had thought died many years ago. Malgudi Days (Penguin Classics) also has a story titled Father's Help. The protagonist is a young boy named Swami, who falsely accuses his teacher of being violent, just because he wants to bunk school. The next story, The Tiger's Claw, will take readers into remote areas, with a talkative man, to hunt for a man-eating tiger. Some of the new stories in this edition are Second Opinion, Hungry Child and The Edge.
