sariska in rajasthan has been one of the most famous tiger reserves in india. about a decade and a half ago, all tigers were killed by brutal poachers. the revelation of the tragic incident was heartbreaking. the incident dealt a deep blow not only to wildlife lovers in india but also to wildlife lovers around the world. due to unlimited debates, doubts, arguments, legal disruptions, finally, after the intervention of the prime minister of india, some tigers were brought from ranthambore to sariska. this was the first experiment of its kind in the world which was completely successful. today, there are more than a dozen tigers in sariska. the above and many other such innovative experiments are described in this book by a person who has been directly involved in them. the author, the then field director, sariska, describes the experiences she had experienced directly in the book in a very exciting style. incidents ranging from hunting, strict action against mining mafia to development of drinking water sites in the desert forests for wildlife and setting up of security posts for effective control of poachers in such dense forests and clashes with villagers and politicians who damage dispersal of forests etc. of course, the contribution of this book in the fulfillment of brief literature available on wildlife will always be unforgettable. the book will be an invaluable fund not only for wildlife lovers and administrators, especially the managers of wildlife sanctuaries/national parks, but also for institutions and students associated with environmental and social concerns.

Sunayan Sharma

Sunayan Sharma, formerly a member of the Indian Forest Service, served as Wildlife Warden at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, during 1986–88. He served Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur during 1988–91 as Research Officer and again during 2006–08 as its Director. During 1991–96, Mr Sharma served as Field Director, Sariska Tiger Reserve. He served Sariska again during 2008–10. His initiative resulted in closure of several marble mines inside the Reserve. He also oversaw the reintroduction of tigers into Sariska after they were decimated by poachers. This was the first such experiment in the world. He also innovated and implemented several protection strategies for the safety of animals in the Tiger Reserve. Sunayan Sharma is now the President of Sariska Tiger Foundation.
