Upset with the public's seeming lack of concern over violence in the inner city, reporter Lane Montgomery decides to do a human interest story on the murder of a young black kid.

Lane's nemesis, working for a competing newspaper, the gorgeous Ann Alexander, is ruthless about getting stories to press ahead of Lane - the more sensational the better. When she finds Ann pursuing this same story from a totally different lead, she is surprised to find connections to drug dealing and political corruption. Should they cooperate? How much can she trust Ann? She is determined she will not be scooped this time, but her unnerving passion for this seductive woman is clouding her judgement.
