This is a profile of Indian sociology in terms of its concepts and theories. It also exposes the dilemmas and structural contradictions in the process of social stratification and change in India. It particularly examines concepts and processes of caste, class and peasantry, elites, social mobility, structural dif-ferentiations, policy of reservation and its impact in SCs/STs and OBCs.
