 Treasure Island is an adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, first published in 1883. An alcoholic ex-pirate Captain passes away and leaves a chest that contains a secret map amongst other treasures. The map is highly sought after by all the wrong people. The male protagonist Jim Hawkin finds the map and speaks to his friends Dr. Livesey and a squire, Mr. Trelawney and they decide to venture to this mystical treasure island to hunt for said treasure. Robert Louis Stevenson Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was an incredibly popular and successful Scottish writer. He came from a long line of prominent lighthouse engineers, however, he studied law and had a great interest in literature. His first successful novel, Treasure Island was published in 1884, followed by A Child's Garden of Verses in 1885, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in 1886.

Robert Louis Stevenson (born Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson; 13 November 1850 – 3 December 1894) was a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet and travel writer. He is best known for works such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Kidnapped and A Child's Garden of Verses Born and educated in Edinburgh, Stevenson suffered from serious bronchial trouble for much of his life but continued to write prolifically and travel widely in defiance of his poor health.
