The Legends of Punjab was written in 1884 into three volumes. This co­pious work was highly acclaimed by the academic world, and it became a legend in itself. The book was also translated into Urdu. It contains folktales narrated and sung by professional bards and narrators. These narrations provided by local were transcribed and translated into English. The folk stories of Raja Risalo, Sakhi Sarwar, Dani Jatti, Goga Pir, Isa the Bapari, Dhanna Jat, Negi Bahadur, and Lal-Beg, etc., provide a vivid account of valour, bravery, historical events, religious and spiritual personalities, rituals, beliefs and social systems in the Punjab. About the Author Sir Richard Carnac Temple (1850-1931) was an Indian-born British administrator, the Chief Commissioner of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and an anthropological writer.
