Crime & Criminals
Love In a Wooden Box by Yateen Suman is about a group of friends, their times together in college, and a murder on campus.
Summary Of The Book
Love In a Wooden Box explores the college life of four freshers - Gautam, Puresh, Sandeep, and Deepak. The book reads like a memoir of the author's college days, as he accurately describes college life in the 90s, before cell phones became ubiquitous.
The story takes place in the Indian School of Mining (ISM), Dhanbad, Bihar. It traces the story of the four friends and covers ragging, cultural festivals, sports events, and the volatile relationship between seniors and juniors.
Even though they are thick friends, the four main characters in the book are very different. Gautam is admired by other students for his bravery in resisting the ragging routine that his seniors carry out. He falls in love with a bright young student, Meenakshi, who is a pillar of support for him throughout. Puresh is a flirt, while Sandeep falls for Shikha, a senior. Deepak is a steadying influence on the other three friends, and is the most mature person in the gang.
The story takes an unexpected turn halfway through the book, when a student is murdered on campus just before the exams. At the same time, there is a series of terrorist attacks throughout the country, and a student from the college is taken hostage too. Deepak and his friends become deeply involved in the proceedings and try to find out who the murderer is, while still preparing for their exams.
