Proof Of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey Into The Afterlife is a remarkable journey into one doctor's near-death experience and his transformation from being rational and scientific to becoming a man of faith.
Summary Of The Book
At the heart of Proof Of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey Into The Afterlife lies one of the most puzzling human experiences of all, the near-death experience. People undergo near-death experiences, or NDEs, when they're either declared clinically dead or are close to their deaths. Many people every year report their near-death experiences, which typically involve sensations such as levitation, detachment from the body, security, serenity, and the presence of a light.
One morning in the year 2008, the internationally renowned neurosurgeon Eben Alexander, suffering from bacterial meningitis, fell into a coma. He was rushed to a hospital, and numerous scans of his brain were undertaken over the next several days. Such was the extent of damage to his brain that the doctors were considering withdrawal of any further treatment.
The events that followed such a grim prediction were miraculous. Eben Alexander came back to life. And his life had changed drastically, for he had had a near-death experience. During the seven days that he lay in coma, he travelled to the deepest stretches of super-physical space, guided by an angelic being, and connected with the divine source of the universe. Now that he was awake, he was a changed man.
Today Alexander believes that, to achieve true health, one must realize the existence of god and the soul, and that death is the transition, not the end. His entire journey from being a non-believer to a man of faith is captured in this book. What separates this book from other similar books is that he uses his scientific background to show that the brain could not have triggered such an experience.
Proof Of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey Into The Afterlife has spent over 30 weeks on The New York Times Bestseller list.
