Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography, The Story of My Experiments with Truth, was originally written in Gujarati and published as Satyana Prayogoathva Aatmakatha (Experiments with Truth or Autobiography). It was published in serial form over a number of instalments in Navajivan, a Gujarati weekly, from 1925 to 1929. The English translation as we see it today was first published in 1948. In The Story of My Experiments with Truth, Mohandas Gandhi shares his ideologies and morals with the general public, and also narrates incidents that shaped the path that he would take towards the truth. Childhood incidents, incidents from the Indian struggle from independence, Gandhi’s experiences in South Africa, his return to India and his full-fledged involvement in the Independence struggle, his relationship with spirituality and kindness, are all part of this story that, as Gandhi stresses, is more about his experiments with life lessons and morals than it is an autobiography.
