The tremendous changes in consumer-related legislations and in the regulatory areas of the market mechanism having their impact on the consumer and his interests have also been dealt with in detail in the book. Developments which have taken place in the consumer scenario especially in consumer protection services and efforts for consumer education etc. since the earlier edition of the book published in 1994 under the title Consumerism: A Growing Concept have also been included in this completely revised edition.

About the Author
Dr. Premavathy Seetharaman is a Reader in the Department of Resource Management at the Institute of Home Economics (University of Delhi). She has several years of teaching experience and has been guiding research studies at Post-Graduate and Ph.D. levels. She has presented and published a number of articles and papers at national and internationalconferences and in journals on~onsumer-related issues. She has prepared instructional material on consumer-related topics for academic and examining bodies like NCERT IGNOU and National Open School etc. She is also on the expert panel of NCERT UPSC HAU PAU UGC NOS IGNOU and Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations.

Dr. Premavathy is a Life Member of the HomercScience Association of India and Vice President of its Delhi Chapter presently the Indian Science CongressJ~under-Member of the Corffeseratten of Indian Consumer Organisations and Life Member of the Voluntary Organization in the Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE) and is actively involved in a number of extension projects in association with voluntary organisations. Dr. Mohini Sethi is a senior Reader in the Department of Foods and Nutrition at the Institute of Home Economics (University of Delhi). She has been teachinq Food Science Nutrition and Food Management to undergraduate and postgraduate students for more than 29 years. She holds a Ph.D. degree from Delhi University and guides research of postgraduate students at both Masters and Ph.D. levels. Besides Delhi University she is also an examiner for PG courses in her field for other universities. Dr. Sethi has presented a number of papers at national and international for a and is a resource person for UGC sponsored workshops. Seminars. Summer courses organised by various universities. She is on the panel of UPSC. RPSC NCERT and UGC as a subject expert. Her contributions to lesson writing for the National Open School and Open University (IGNOU) are well known. A hard-working conscientious academic she has published two other books namely Catering Management: An Integrated Approach and Consumerism: A Growing Concept. Both used nationally and internationally. In her long career she has been a consultant to various organizations including South India Shipping Corporation Madras; U.S. Wheat Associates India; Scindia School Gwalior and Gulmarg Skiing Association. She is also involved in voluntary teaching and is honorary research advisor at the Nutrition Foundation of India and VOICE a Voluntary organization in the interest of consumer education. Dr. Sethi is Life Member of a number of professional bodies such as the Nutrition Society of India; Home Science Association of India; Association of Food Scientists and Technologists India; Indian Dietetics Association; Hotel Catering and Institutional Management Association U.K. besides Indian Science Congress
