In spite of being neck deep in debt and in bad health due to work fatigue, Hori is determined to provide cow’s milk to his grandson but tragedy befalls. It also reveals the tale of Rai Sahib, a Zamindar who marries his daughter to the son of a Zamindar widow and thereby usurps the land owned by her. However, the land ownership issue reaches the court. The book also tells the story of Dr. Malati Devi, a woman who used to lead a munificent life and is swayed by the principles of Mr. Mehta.
