In spite of being neck deep in debt and in bad health due to work fatigue, Hori is determined to provide cow’s milk to his grandson but tragedy befalls. It also reveals the tale of Rai Sahib, a Zamindar who marries his daughter to the son of a Zamindar widow and thereby usurps the land owned by her. However, the land ownership issue reaches the court. The book also tells the story of Dr. Malati Devi, a woman who used to lead a munificent life and is swayed by the principles of Mr. Mehta. She visits the village and makes serving the poor villagers the mission of her life. Munshi Premchand was born Dhanpat Rai on July 31, 1880 in Lamhi, Uttar Pradesh. He has written novels like Manorama and Vardan. He worked as a Government teacher, and he was lured by works of fiction from his childhood itself. He is known for depicting the characters he had encountered in his life in his works. He passed away on October 8, 1936.
