Summary of the Book Elizabeth Bennet is the second of five daughters of an English country gentleman. Unaccustomed to social situations, Elizabeth has to attend a ball where she meets Fitzwilliam Darcy, a man who acts haughty and arrogant towards her and towards the ball in general. Eventually, chance puts her in Darcy's path several times, and she discovers that Mr. Darcy isn't all that bad after all.
