Tales of Shiva is a 32-page Hindi Comic book published by Amar Chitra Katha intended for children between 9 and 16 years of age. Shiva is the Lord of Destruction, and yet loved as the other deities in the triad of Hindu Gods--Brahma and Vishnu being the other two. The book contains a number of mythological tales and anecdotes from the life of Lord Shiva. It is said that he often moved out from his snowy abode on Mount Kailash and travelled far and wide to answer the prayers of his devotees but was mostly in disguise to ensure that help was rendered to the deserving. The stories about how he even emerged from the sand to kick aside the mighty Yama--the God of Death--are presented with colourful illustrations, and battled with the brave Pandava Arjuna, mingled with the fishermen. Subba Rao, a former teacher, joined Amar Chitra Katha in 1976. Since then, he has written a large number of comic books based on historical events and mythological tales. Other comic books written by him include Chandragupta Maurya, Bhagat Singh, Tales of Vishnu, and Nachiketa. He joined Anant Pai, the founder of Amar Chitra Katha, in a campaign to introduce comic books in schools as they would make teaching history more interesting.
