20Th Century History: C 1900 To C 2000

When the 13th Dalai Lama died, his followers followed the omens to the north-east, where they believed they would find his successor. Their search led them to a one-story house with unique guttering and tiling. Inside, they met a young boy named Thondup. The followers believed that young Thondup was the next Dalai Lama. They tested the young boy, showing him certain objects which included some artefacts belonging to the previous Lama. Thondup picked out those exact objects, satisfying the followers' doubts. They began to educate young Thondup, recognizing him as Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso, their Holy Lord, Gentle Glory, Compassionate, Defender of the Faith, Ocean of Wisdom. Young Tenzin Gyatso was surprised at the change in the atmosphere around him. He displayed diligence in his education and worked hard for the final exam at Lhasa's Jokhang Temple during the annual Monlam or prayer Festival. He passed with honours, successfully obtaining the Lharampa degree, the highest-level geshe degree, the equivalent of a doctorate in Buddhist philosophy. He had finally gained complete acceptance as who he was fated to be: the 14th Dalai Lama. However, his rule over Tibet was quickly brought to an end as China began to seize control. The Chinese dictator Mao Zedong began to annex Tibetan territory and began the "chinafication" of Tibet. This is the story of the young boy who was thrust into a world of responsibility as the religious leader of an entire people. About Tetsu Saiwai Tetsu Saiwai is a mangaka from Japan.
