Summary of the Book
When Josh and Sophie Newman took up their summer jobs at The Coffee Cup in San Francisco they did not expect the quiet bookshop owner and his wife next door to be magicians. No, not in the least did they expect them to be the great Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel, the immortal magicians kept alive by the Elixir of Life. They discover this when Nick and Perry use magic to defend themselves against John Dee, a stranger who enters the shop in search for The Codex, the Book of Abraham the Mage. Josh rushes in to help the Flamels, and holds onto the book, but Dee steals it away using magic, leaving two pages in Josh's hands. The evil magician leaves, and the Flamels are devastated at having lost their most prized possession. If they do not retrieve it in time, they will age and perish. What's worse, John Dee will use it to summon the Dark Elders to destroy the world and return it to a darker age when humans were merely slaves and food. Sophie and Josh decide to help the Flamels and join them on an adventure which will change their lives forever.
