An assembly of sometimes linked fragments, The Book of Disquiet is a hauntingly beautiful work, introduced by Pessoa as a “factless autobiography”. Several editions of this book have been published. This Penguin Modern Classics edition contains an introduction, notes on the text and translation, and acknowledgements. This is followed by a preface by Fernando Pessoa, sections called A Factless Autobiography and A Disquiet Anthology. Texts Citing the Name of Vicente Guedes, Two Letters, and Reflections on The Book of Disquiet from Pessoa's Writings are the appendices included, along with notes and table of heteronyms.
