Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, written by Mary Shelley and published in 1818, is a ground-breaking novel that combines elements of Gothic horror and early science fiction. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a living being from dead body parts, only to face tragic consequences when his creation turns against him. The novel explores themes such as the dangers of unchecked ambition, isolation, responsibility, and the nature of humanity.

Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley, daughter of philosopher William Godwin and feminist writer Mary Wollstonecraft, was a pioneering English author. She married poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and, at 18, wrote ‘Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus’, published in 1818. The novel, a blend of Gothic and early science fiction, explores ambition, isolation, and human responsibility. Despite personal tragedies, including the deaths of her husband and children, she continued writing, leaving a lasting literary legacy.
